Inoculation Station

Inoculation day is here!

As we know, shiitake cultivation is a science, and while we have a lot of expert guidance there is still room for error when starting from scratch in a new location. This year being our first, we are taking on the challenge of inoculating 500 logs with two different strains of spawn in order to optimize our chances of shiitake production.

The inoculation process will consist of drilling holes into the logs, filling the logs with spawn, waxing over the holes and laying the logs out on the laying yard. Over the next six months, we will monitor temperature, rainfall and wildlife activity to ensure that the logs are maintaining moisture and not being disturbed.

We are very excited to get started and see what we can accomplish over the next several days!
